Devil's Advocate: What if 2012 comes, and nothing happens?

Below is a myspace blog post from 2006. I thought it would be interesting to repost it and would make for some interesting discussion.

A good friend of mine during a phone conversation posed an interesting question to me today: what if 2012 comes and goes, and nothing happens? All over the net are channelings and websites and whatnot speculating everything from the end of the world, to a global shift in consciousness, and in some circles, even the coming of Jesus and the rapture. This got me thinking about similar circumstances in the past. Back in 88, I was heavy in the UPC pentecostal church. I remember the revivals centering around a booklet called "88 Reasons Why Christ Will Come in 88", which predicted this event would occur around 9/14/88. I was a freshman in college, and in my fundamentalist arrogance was left thinking, "why am I even bothering to go to school, when I'm not gonna be here much longer..."

Imagine my surprise when, a month later, I was still here...

The same thoughts occurred to me at the same time about the year 2000: "Only 12 more years for me to be here, then Jesus will come and I will go"... this combined with Y2K and the supposed societal collapse going with it...

...again, imagine my surprise when 2000 came and gone (by this time I was well out of the fundamentalist mentality, but still expecting something major to occur)... and still here, nothing exceptional occurring...

Now I will be the first to admit that there is SOMETHING going on, some kind of shift as trends seems to be closing in on Bush and some ppl appear to be growing wiser, but on the whole, things largely appear to go unchanged.

Every week Sheldon Nidle speaks of the impending fall of the dark cabal, but this rhetoric has gone on for years, as have similar channelings regarding ascension and the arrival of benevolent beings, and alas, how many of us have been disappointed time and again when nothing occurs and life goes on as usual?

What if it is the same with 2012? I certainly hope not-- this world NEEDS CHANGE and things CANNOT continue as they are, but yet, one has to ask-- given the track record of things so far, the only thing that gives the theory of 2012 any credibility is the extreme accuracy of the Mayan calendar. Consider this though: could it be that back then there could have been a simple explanation that the calendar ended this date? Who knows? Maybe someone simply said "Enough already! We have gone x thousands of years into the future, let it go already!" We never truly will know, until that day actually comes and we do see for ourselves!

I certainly hope that things will change this day, but given the track record of things so far, one of the most important lessons my spiritual path has taught me applies here: NO EXPECTATIONS!

Have no expectations of any kind for this day-- just sit back, let go, let flow, watch what happens, and heaven forbid if nothing does-- then move on and live, like we always have.

Dear Friends,
I would like to make two small points on this subject. You may take them for what they are worth.

First, the Mayan calendar ends but it does not say that the world will end. It mearly says that a large cycle will be completed. Therefore the calender just repeats in the next large intervel. It is similar to our yearly calendar ending on Dec 31, the calendar ended but next year still comes. Now it is true that the "end" of the Mayan calender coincides with our solar systems position relative to the "equator" or our galactic center. This could certainly produce gravimetric or other stresses on our planet. But, the extent of these effects are unknown.

Second, I am a firm believer that we are all co-creators, and that we are creating our own reality every moment of our lives. This we do both individually and collectively. Our collective mind operates at a much higher perspective than does our individual mind. Therefore, the collective mind creates a global level reality and our individual mind creates our own personal level reality in relationship to the global reality. Now practicly everyone on the planet thinks and is therfore creating a collective reality which says that something Big is going to happen on or around 12/21/2012. Individually many are thinking about and therefore creating their own specific reality coinsiding with this date. We must remember that we are creating as individuals within a collective within a large collective within a still larger..... ad infinitum So if the Fundementalist Christians are awaiting the Rapture, then that is what they individually and collectively are going to experience. So I think that all of these different scenarios are going to happen. Whether any of us individually are aware someone else's reality or not. What happens to you is what you think is going to happen to you. But above all, do not fear what ever you think might happen or you will create the very reality that your fear.
My wish for you is that you joyously experience exactly what you want to experience.

A friend suggested that 2012 is just a window opening whereafter there will be plenty left to do. I feel this is a more realistic approach as well. Perhaps by then there will be enough supportive forces to help all those billions of people who have no conscious clue as to what may be happening. So maybe it's my origin but I find it hard to get TOO wound up and full of expectation about something that to me seems to be a natural process of evolution. I don't deny that the indvidual is of some importance in all this but maybe sometimes there is too little trust in destiny/the Creator etc? I mean that it is more a case of a paradox of both-and rather then an either-or scenario.

I believe 2012 it not the end of the world. A change may occur but not the kind the people expect like global catatrophy or natural disaster that will end civilization. Let's think about the indigo and crystal children for example. God sent the indigo children on this planet with their warrior like nature to break down the old system of this planet to pave a new age of peace, Gods way. Then the crystal children takes over with carrying out their roles of spreading peace the intended way they are meant to. So...how can these new generation of children carry out their mission if the world is going to be DESTROYED. They wouldn't be able to right.

So God has sent a plan in motion to send these new generation of children to make world changes. And it can't be done if our planet is suddenly diminished. That's not what God wants. I don't think the higher powers are going to let this planet be destroyed if they had it planned and had already sent the indigo and crystal children to live among us to change the world. There will be no apocalypse. Their will be changes in the planet but not the end. By the way...I found a feather on my sleeve when I typed this. That's gotta mean something!
