Below is a myspace blog post from 2006. I thought it would be interesting to repost it and would make for some interesting discussion.
A good friend of mine during a phone conversation posed an interesting question to me today: what if 2012 comes and goes, and nothing happens? All over the net are channelings and websites and whatnot speculating everything from the end of the world, to a global shift in consciousness, and in some circles, even the coming of Jesus and the rapture. This got me thinking about similar circumstances in the past. Back in 88, I was heavy in the UPC pentecostal church. I remember the revivals centering around a booklet called "88 Reasons Why Christ Will Come in 88", which predicted this event would occur around 9/14/88. I was a freshman in college, and in my fundamentalist arrogance was left thinking, "why am I even bothering to go to school, when I'm not gonna be here much longer..."
Imagine my surprise when, a month later, I was still here...
The same thoughts occurred to me at the same time about the year 2000: "Only 12 more years for me to be here, then Jesus will come and I will go"... this combined with Y2K and the supposed societal collapse going with it...
...again, imagine my surprise when 2000 came and gone (by this time I was well out of the fundamentalist mentality, but still expecting something major to occur)... and still here, nothing exceptional occurring...
Now I will be the first to admit that there is SOMETHING going on, some kind of shift as trends seems to be closing in on Bush and some ppl appear to be growing wiser, but on the whole, things largely appear to go unchanged.
Every week Sheldon Nidle speaks of the impending fall of the dark cabal, but this rhetoric has gone on for years, as have similar channelings regarding ascension and the arrival of benevolent beings, and alas, how many of us have been disappointed time and again when nothing occurs and life goes on as usual?
What if it is the same with 2012? I certainly hope not-- this world NEEDS CHANGE and things CANNOT continue as they are, but yet, one has to ask-- given the track record of things so far, the only thing that gives the theory of 2012 any credibility is the extreme accuracy of the Mayan calendar. Consider this though: could it be that back then there could have been a simple explanation that the calendar ended this date? Who knows? Maybe someone simply said "Enough already! We have gone x thousands of years into the future, let it go already!" We never truly will know, until that day actually comes and we do see for ourselves!
I certainly hope that things will change this day, but given the track record of things so far, one of the most important lessons my spiritual path has taught me applies here: NO EXPECTATIONS!
Have no expectations of any kind for this day-- just sit back, let go, let flow, watch what happens, and heaven forbid if nothing does-- then move on and live, like we always have.
